To the rose the queen among flowers, which has always punctuated life's most romantic moments, Great Italian Gardens, the network of the most beautiful gardens that can be visited in Italy, dedicates an itinerary: In the Name of the Rose.

Each year Great Italian Gardens promotes visits to selected gardens from its circuit as an opportunity to learn about or rediscover important collections of ancient and modern roses.

Thus was born the itinerary In the Name of the Rose, a journey to discover the most beautiful rose gardens belonging to our circuit, which boast important collections of roses that create labyrinths, such as that of the Castello delle Rose di Cordovado (Cordovado, PN), flower-lined avenues, such as the Viale delle Rose of the Parco Giardino Sigurtà (Vialeggio sul Mincio, VR), or suggestive flower-filled terraces on the roof of the world such as the Giardino della Rosa (Ronzone, TN) to name just a few.

In the Name of the Rose is a special invitation to discover the romantic and extraordinary blooms of roses within the Great Italian Gardens circuit, following its flowering cycle, different from region to region.

Since 2020 In the Name of the Rose has also been an itinerary for the discovery of the Rosa Grandi Giardini Italiani® a bushy, large-flowered rose with an upright habit, dense, dark green foliage, highly resistant to disease and with an intense fragrance. The Rose is meant to be a souvenir, an olfactory reminder of a day spent in a network garden.

A journey through scents and colors: the rose garden at Villa Durazzo

In the heart of the Villa Durazzo park, the path leading to the villa transforms into an experience to be enjoyed slowly, step by step. Here, among the rose bushes that line the path, nature creates a veritable rainbow of colors and scents: ancient roses waft delicate, timeless notes into the air, while modern varieties offer intense, surprising nuances.

Thus, a small, romantic rose garden is born, captivating the eye and enveloping visitors in an atmosphere of refined beauty. Among the highlights is the ''Virna Lisi'' rose, dedicated to the unforgettable actress, with its elegant, nuanced salmon tones, alongside the deep, vibrant red of the ''Grandi Giardini Italiani'' rose. This evocative corner invites you to let yourself be guided along the path to the villa.

A little further on, along the curve that descends from the San Francesco gate toward the valley, you'll find the flowerbed dedicated to the true soul of the park: the Rose of Genoa. Its white petals edged in red recall the cross of St. George, the city's historic symbol, transforming each flower into a tribute to Genoese memory and identity.

A rose born to tell the world about the beauty of Genoa, intertwining history, emotion, and nature in a timeless bloom.

EDUCATIONAL ROSES

Staying on Lombard soil, the Botanical Garden of the University of Pavia houses a collection of roses numbering 323 specimens, including 37 botanical roses, 151 ancient and 114 modern ones.
The Rose Garden, established in 1955 at the behest of director Raffaele Ciferri, was redesigned in 1986 by naturalist Cristiana Serra Zanetti. Located in the southern part of the Garden that faces the city, it is organized in a complex of geometric flowerbeds separated by graveled paths, among which are neoclassical statues in soft Vicenza stone and ten small fountains.After ups and downs, it has returned to its former glory, thanks in part to the Garden's restoration project financed in 2024 by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Ministry of Culture.
