Under the Bamboo Tree returns with a new edition titled Animali Vegetali (Plant Animals), under the artistic direction of Luca Boffi, who brings the GNOLE project to the Labirinto della Masone on October 17 and 18.
At the heart of Boffi's research lies the boundary between body and landscape. The name GNOLE evokes wood (*legno*) and, simultaneously, the *gnola*-an insistent, repetitive wail-transforming an expressive form into an invocation addressed to other living beings.
Animali Vegetali thus serves as an appeal-almost a mantra-calling attention to the presence of plants and animals on Earth and inviting a shift in perspective regarding the relationship between humans and nature.
🎋 Ten installations in the Labyrinth and the Park
On both days, the visit will extend beyond the bamboo maze, thanks to the special opening of the Franco Maria Ricci Foundation Park.
Spanning the Labyrinth and the Park, ten bamboo structures will serve as stations along a route to be explored with the aid of a map. The installations weave together texts by Luca Boffi and excerpts from ''Lettere delle piante agli esseri umani'' (Letters from Plants to Humans) by Sanja Särman-an epistolary novel in which a multitude of voices gives shape to the collective consciousness of plants.
The journey invites a reversal of perspective: the plant world is not portrayed as submissive or waiting to be saved, but rather as a presence that observes humans and challenges their claim to autonomy. As one traverses the landscape, it is the plants that find their voice.
🎭 GNOLE - Live performance
On Saturday, October 17, at 8:00 PM, the Labyrinth's Entrance Courtyard will host the live performance of GNOLE. Launched in 2023 through the collaboration between Luca Boffi and Daniele Mungai, the project is written by Boffi and unfolds through the sounds created by musicians Frenetik&Orange and Carmine Iuvone. Production involves artist Lorenzo Lunghi, Artificio, and Foresta Studio, while Gianluca Sansevrino serves as director of photography.
GNOLE is an open form, capable of shifting subjects and configurations in response to the events that shape it. For this occasion, Boffi's artistic inquiry engages with the words of Sanja Särman through a performance crafted via subtraction-exploring visual perception, landscape transformations, and the reciprocal relationships between living beings.
