On Sunday, July 12th, at 5:30 pm, Villa del Grumello in Como hosts the event Walking with the Golden Poet. This unmissable event combines nature, theater, and historical memory. A theatrical walk that pays homage to Giuliano Scabia and his poetic fight for the closure of mental hospitals, marking the 25th anniversary of the historic narrative walk led by the master of theater and poetry himself from Brunate to Torno, above Lake Como.
🎭 The Show and the Route
Leading the way on this journey of memory will be Marco Cavallo, a wood and thermoplastic sculpture (constructed by Nadia Milani). The work directly references the historic sculpture created in the Trieste mental hospital from the meeting between Scabia and Franco Basaglia: an icon of the ethical, social, medical, and political struggle for the law to close mental hospitals, as well as a visible symbol of humanity then confined and forgotten.
Giving voice and substance to this story will be the words of four extraordinary artists who experienced the mental asylum firsthand:
◆ Antonin Artaud
◆ Antonio Ligabue
◆ Alda Merini
◆ Vincent van Gogh
An invitation to walk together, where theater and poetry transform into a collective gesture of hope, dignity, and freedom.
👤 Cast and Production
Curated by: Giuseppe Adduci and Mario Bianchi
Production: Teatro Gruppo Popolare
On stage: Cosetta Adduci, Virginia Adduci, and the Officina Laboratory
