From June 3 to September 13, the Reggia di Venaria (Venaria Reale, Turin) hosts the exhibition ''Milo Manara. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco'' as part of the twenty-seventh edition of the Milanesiana-conceived and directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi. The exhibition pays a twofold, extraordinary tribute: it commemorates the 10th anniversary of Umberto Eco's passing, and it is part of the celebrations for Milo Manara's 80th birthday, offering the public the opportunity to reread an absolute masterpiece of world literature in a powerful new visual key.
The exhibition also celebrates the 45th anniversary of the famous novel, featuring the plates from Milo Manara's graphic novel (published by Oblomov Edizioni): a comic book adaptation that masterfully balances fidelity to the original text with a free-form approach to drawing.
🖼️ The Exhibition
The exhibition features 14 original large-format plates:
◈ 7 plates selected from the first volume of the graphic novel.
◈ 7 plates selected from the second volume.
Manara's work evokes a Middle Ages traditionally understood as ''dark,'' but here it comes to life and transforms thanks to a feverish imagination. Among the distinctive features of the work on display:
The exhibition is organized by Burgo Spa and Ciaccio Arte. Design and installation by Luca Volpatti.

Manara's work evokes a Middle Ages traditionally understood as ''dark,'' but here it comes to life and transforms thanks to a feverish imagination. Among the distinctive features of the work on display:
- the pensive faces of the monks, which seem almost carved in stone
- the evocative and silent snow-covered landscapes
- the dreamlike visions populated by creatures and demons
