6th edition of the Bonsai Shohin Festival
From Friday 17 to Sunday 19 February in the Crespi Bonsai spaces in Parabiago (Mi), the world of shohin will once again be the protagonist at the 6th edition of the Bonsai Shohin Festival, where collectors and enthusiasts from all over Italy and beyond will exhibit their small masterpieces.
The Japanese master Hiroki Miura will personally take care of the setting up of the exhibition and will hold courses and workshops dedicated to shaping and maintenance techniques suitable for shohin, as well as an unprecedented demonstration during which he will compare shaping techniques for conifers with those for deciduous trees. Not to be missed are both Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February guided tours of the planned bonsai shohin exhibition, curated by Master Miura.
A great shohin bonsai expert, Hiroki Miura, after studying under Master Yukio Hirose of the Yamato-en nursery, later inherited the family nursery, the Miura Baiju-en. He regularly teaches shohin bonsai courses, taking around 120 students each year, among whom are numerous amateurs and professionals who have received prizes at the Taikanten and Gafuten exhibitions, and have passed selection to participate in Japan's prestigious national Kokufuten exhibition. He is currently a recognised lecturer of the Japanese Bonsai Shohin Association of which he is also a director and lecturer at the NHK culture centre. He writes for the Japanese magazine Kinbon Bonsai.
