Villa Durazzo (Santa Margherita Ligure, GE) is among the Great Italian Gardens featured in the 2026 edition of Appointment in the Garden, the event promoted by APGI-Associazione Parchi e Giardini d'Italia which, in accordance with the Rendez-vous aux jardins initiative, will take place simultaneously in over 20 European countries.
For the occasion, on Sunday, June 7th at 5 pm, you can take a guided tour to discover the wonders of the Park and discover:
◈ The Small Citrus Grove by the Sea
The oldest part of the park, located on a panoramic terrace. Alongside imposing lemon, mandarin, and bitter orange trees, it preserves rare varieties of ancient citrus fruits, such as the 18th-century ''scanellato bitter orange'' and the extremely rare ''Bizzarria bitter orange.''
◈ The Italian Garden
Framed along the seafront parterre, it enchants the eye with flowerbeds bordered by myrtle and Crenata hollyhock hedges, adorned with numerous Cycads and, in the summer, the splendid blue blooms of Agapanthus. The garden is bordered on each side by a precious collection of 19th-century camellias, among which the famous Lavinia Maggi stands out.
◈ The Romantic English Woodland
Extending along the hillside, it is a harmonious blend of exotic and Mediterranean flora. Here, holm oaks, cypresses, camphor trees, lime trees, and pines blend with palms of all kinds (such as Phoenix canariensis, Washingtonia filifera, and Jubea chilensis).
◈ The North Area and the Ligurian ''Risseu''
A deeply evocative area, enriched by statues, gushing fountains, and cobblestone paths leading to the terrace in front of the villa, dominated by the exquisite risseu, the typical geometric Ligurian paving in black and white stones.
◈ The Secret Garden of the Centurione Princes
A truly discreet refuge that welcomed lovers in the 19th century and which still retains the romantic atmosphere of the era, completely intact.
🏰 The Villa
The park surrounds the splendid residence built in the 17th century by the Durazzo Marquises. Inside, the Villa houses an important collection of paintings from the Genoese school, period furnishings, sumptuous Murano chandeliers, and traditional terrazzo floors.
