Roots in time

A journey through time between the sea, art, and nature

From May 2nd to October 25th, the gardens of Villa Bell'Aspetto in Nettuno (Rome) are open to the public once again. A special visit, suitable for all travelers, will lead you to discover the ''Roots in Time,'' a journey through time between the sea, art, and nature.

🏛️ Villa Bell'Aspetto
Villa Bell'Aspetto is a lush park overlooking the sea, where history, art, and nature intertwine in a unique atmosphere. The late Baroque palace was designed by architect Antonio de Rossi in the mid-17th century, commissioned by Cardinal Vincenzo Costaguti.

Purchased in the early 19th century by Camillo Borghese, the villa has over time become a symbolic place for the Borghese family, dedicated to relaxation, contemplation, and cultural life.

Strolling through the gardens, visitors can immerse themselves in evocative scenery: shaded paths, glimpses of the sea, and quiet corners where people once read or painted watercolors, as evidenced by the works of Giovanni Piancastelli.

🎨 Historical and Cultural Notes
Over the centuries, the villa has hosted illustrious figures, including Gabriele d'Annunzio and Eleonora Duse.

During the Second World War, the Anzio and Nettuno area was the site of the historic Allied landing (Operation Shingle). Villa Bell'Aspetto played a significant role, housing the headquarters of the VI Corps of the US Fifth Army in its dungeons.

After the war, thanks to Steno Borghese and later Giovanangelo and Lydia Borghese, the villa rediscovered its original spirit, maintaining the family atmosphere that still characterizes it today.

🌸 The Park of Villa Bell'Aspetto
Beyond being a historic garden, it is a laboratory of biodiversity where botanical collections and attention to the preservation of natural balances have always been at the heart of its development. Wisely designed in the 17th century, it continues to be a place where nature and humanity meet in harmony.
