From April to November the Pallavicino Park nature reserve (Stresa, VB) opens its doors to children and families with a series of meetings dedicated to discovering the animal world and protecting ecosystems.
Seven meetings will guide visitors on a journey through stages dedicated to discovering biodiversity and raising environmental awareness. The common thread is simple but fundamental: knowing nature to learn how to protect it.
The meetings will be led by the park's biologist Tommaso Calligarich, who will accompany participants with stories, scientific curiosities, and live observations, helping them understand the complexity and extraordinary richness of the animal world.
Each day includes four sessions lasting approximately 40 minutes, with the first meeting at 11:00 a.m. and the last at 3:30 p.m. Each meeting welcomes up to 40 participants.
The Meeting Schedule
◈ April 11 - Life Inside an Egg
The series of meetings opens with a tour dedicated to one of the most surprising phenomena in biology: birth. The classroom will be equipped with materials and insights into embryonic development, and the luckiest visitors will be able to witness the hatching of the Park's hens.
◈ April 26 - Save the Frog Day
On the occasion of World Amphibian Day, the meeting will be dedicated to frogs and their relatives, among the most threatened animals on the planet. Through images, natural specimens, and scientific explanations, visitors will discover the fundamental role that amphibians play in ecosystems.
◈ May 24 - The European pond turtle
The focus of the meeting will be Emys orbicularis, a native species that is increasingly rare in Piedmont's waterways. Some specimens are finding refuge at Pallavicino Park thanks to a conservation project developed in collaboration with the Emys Piedmont Center. The event coincides with International Turtle Day.
◈ July 19 - Large Italian Predators
On the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day, we will discuss wolves, bears, and lynxes. These animals, often at the center of public debate, will be described through the language of science with the help of photographs and naturalistic artifacts.
◈ September 13 - Megaminimondo
A journey into the surprising universe of invertebrates: insects, myriapods, and small soil dwellers, essential to the balance of ecosystems. An experience that will allow you to observe up close organisms that are often invisible but essential to life on the planet.
◈ October 4 - In the Wild Heart of Piedmont
On World Animal Day, the classroom will be transformed into an interactive space dedicated to Piedmont's wildlife. Participants will be able to learn about some local species and discover the conservation projects active in the area.
◈ November 8 - Grand Finale at the Farm
For the last day of the season, activities will move to the Park's farm: children will be able to get up close to the animals, participate in the distribution of snacks for the llamas and goats, and receive feathers lost during the peacocks' moult as a memento of the day.
Participation in the encounters costs 5 per child, in addition to the Park entrance ticket.
Reservations are required on the website: terreborrome.it.
