Throughout the year, the Seghetti Panichi Historic Park (Castel di Lmaa, AP) opens its doors for an immersive guided tour to discover one of Italy's most fascinating historic gardens.
After the unification of Italy in 1860, the ancient defensive structure overlooking the Lama stream-a medieval tower, castle, and country palace over the centuries-was transformed and refined with the creation of an elegant landscape garden. The park was designed and created between 1875 and 1890 by the great German botanist and landscape architect Ludwig Winter, leaving a precious testimony to his profound love of palm trees.
Along the route, visitors can admire botanical specimens of extraordinary value, including a rare Jubaea spectabilis, numerous Phoenix canariensis and Phoenix dactylifera, the silvery-blue Heritiera armata, monumental Washingtonia filifera, Chamaerops humilis, as well as groups of Yucca gloriosa and Cordyline australis.
The Seghetti Panichi Historical Park also stands out as the first Italian historic garden to have undergone systematic surveys of its vast bioenergetic areas. The electromagnetic measurements, which lasted over two years, identified areas of particular energetic balance. Walking through evocative natural settings and stopping in calm and soothing spaces, visitors are invited to experience firsthand the benefits generated by the presence of these diverse plant species.
The trail passes through trees typical of the Marche landscape, such as copper beech and oak, alternating with oriental influences concentrated around the soft pond: golden Ginkgo biloba, Japanese Prunus with delicate pink flowers-among the first harbingers of spring-a light Taxodium distichum, and a refined Sophora japonica 'Pendula'. Water lilies and white lotus flowers flourish in the pond, contributing to a harmonious atmosphere.
The tour concludes with a discussion of the Borgo's natural products: the essences of palm trees, olive trees, and ancient orange trees in the garden create a silky and delicately scented body oil, part of the Borgo Storico Natural Beauty line. At the Borgo Ristorante, the vegetable and spice garden also inspires spring recipes based on flowers and aromatic herbs, for an experience that combines nature, flavor, and well-being.
The one-hour immersive tour is available for groups by reservation.
