After the summer break, Palazzo Boncompagni in Bologna reopens its doors with a special experience: every Friday evening, an exclusive guided tour to discover the treasures of the Palazzo, followed by an aperitif in an evocative atmosphere. The perfect way to start the weekend.
In addition to the famous Sala del Papa, you can also admire the spiral staircase leading to the main floor of the palace, attributed to Jacopo Barrozzi, known as Il Vignola, inspired by the noble models of Bramante in the Vatican and that of Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola by Il Vignola himself, and very similar to that of Palazzo Barozzi.
At the end of the Sala del Papa, visitors are struck by a monumental fireplace, possibly designed by Pellegrino Tibaldi, where they can admire the first of five scenes from David's youth, a painting on wood depicting Samuel anointing David as king of Israel.
A garden inside the walls and a garden outside them crystallise the transformations of this site over the centuries.
