The Parco delle Terme di Levico (Levico, TN) opens the doors of its nursery for a weekend dedicated to dahlia blooms: over 150 varieties in
full splendour, all to be admired!
A unique opportunity to discover the thousand colours and different shapes of this beloved flower, with lots of useful tips for growing it in your own gardens and vegetable patches.
The dahlia is the national flower of Mexico, where it grows wild in nature and was already cultivated by pre-Columbian civilisations, such as the Aztecs, who also used it for food and medicinal purposes. The name
“Dahlia” was given in honour of the Swedish botanist Anders Dahl, a pupil of Linnaeus.
The Dahlia genus includes approximately 42 species native mainly
to the highlands of Mexico and Central America, from which over
20,000 cultivars have been selected for ornamental purposes.
Today, there are dahlias of all types: ball, cactus, collar, single
or double, and they can range from 30 cm to 200 cm in height.
