The special events to admire the magic of the garden of Villa Pizzo in Cernobbio (CO) at sunset are back.
On Thursdays in June (11, 18, 25) you can take part in a special guided tour, Sunset at Pizzo, in which you will explore the interiors of the Villa and the vast park that extends for almost two kilometers along the green and lush coast of Pizzo.
Villa Pizzo is one of the oldest residences on Lake Como; the land for the construction of the villa was purchased in the 15th century by the Mugiasca family of Como, who jealously guarded Il Pizzo for over four hundred years. Among the crucial moments of the Mugiasca property is the plague of 1629, which saw Il Pizzo become a refuge for many men and women fleeing from infected cities. It was on this occasion that, taking advantage of the labor of the many people present, the first important framework was given to the park of the villa.
Among the illustrious figures who have passed through Villa Pizzo is the famous scientist Alessandro Volta, remembered by a monument that the owners had built after his death in 1827.
In about 1840 Ranieri of Habsburg, viceroy of Lombardy-Veneto, purchased the property. Viceroy Ranieri did not arrive at Pizzo alone, but accompanied by the famous landscape architect Villoresi, nephew of the designer of the Royal Villa of Monza, who gave a unique layout to the large park around the Villa. Later, the Villa was purchased by the charming Madame Elise Musard, who gave a recognizable feminine touch to the Villa, still visible today in its external appearance. When Madame Musard left the Villa, the Milanese Volpi-Bassani family purchased it respecting the architectural and stylistic choices of the past and adding elements of great value that can still be admired in the park today, including the majestic dock and the imposing family Mausoleum, both clearly visible from the lake.
