Spring, Summer and Autumn: each season at the Sigurtà Garden Park (Valeggio sul Mincio, VR) is special for its exciting colours, which follow one another during the eight months it is open to the public.
Tulips, muscari, hyacinths and narcissus colour the Park's wide carpets in March and April, but also the iris with their vibrant yellow, orange, purple and pale pink petals, and the Hornbill, a tree that takes on pink hues, the fabulous peonies also known as ‘thornless roses' in red, pink, purple, yellow and white.
May is the month of the roses and you can see thousands of specimens bloom in two elegant varieties on the Viale delle Rose, an image known beyond the borders of Italy, and in various spots in the Garden; a very special beauty with light purple and cyclamen hues is given by the alliums and annuals, such as impatiens and sunpatiens, in shades of pink and red.
In summer, the undisputed queens of the ponds are the multi-coloured tropical and rustic water lilies, while hydrangeas and dahlias can be admired in the park.
The flowering of roses also continues on the elegant Rose Avenue, not to mention the 40 varieties of herbs in the Garden of Medicinal Plants.
In autumn, the stars are the brightly coloured Japanese maples, lagerstroemias, tulip trees, the majestic liquidambar and Ginkgo Biloba with their golden leaves, white and black hornbeams. Not to be outdone are the imposing metasequoias or water spruces that dye the edges of the ponds red-orange.
