History

Viatori Garden was born from the passion and vision of Professor Luciano Viatori, who created this evocative botanical garden and bequeathed it in 2014 to the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia. The Foundation has undertaken the commitment to preserve and enhance this valuable heritage, making it accessible to the public.

Set in a panoramic location overlooking the city of Gorizia, the Isonzo River, the Karst plateau and the Prealps, the Garden brings together remarkable collections of flowers and plants whose abundant blooms reach their peak in spring. Rhododendrons and azaleas, hydrangeas, peonies, climbing roses and deciduous magnolias can be admired in flower from March to June, while herbaceous perennials and bulbs enrich the garden beds with vibrant and contrasting colours. Blooming continues throughout the summer, eventually giving way to the warm hues of autumn.

The goGreen App enhances the visitor experience, offering immersive content and in-depth insights into the Garden's botanical collections.
At the heart of the park stands Casa Viatori, an innovative visitor centre that tells the story of the Garden through interactive touchpoints, augmented reality (AR+) content and virtual reality stations. This engaging experience reveals the secrets of the Garden's blooms and Professor Viatori's botanical vision, creating a dialogue between nature and technology. From Casa Viatori, visitors are also invited to discover the surrounding area and explore the rich landscape, natural heritage and cultural attractions that characterise this fascinating region.

How to get there

✈️ By Plane

Trieste - Ronchi dei Legionari Airport (TRS): This is the closest airport, located about 25 km from Gorizia. From the airport, you can reach Gorizia:
- By Train: The ''Trieste Airport'' train station is directly connected to the terminal, with frequent trains to Gorizia Centrale (about 15-20 minutes).
- By Car: Rent a car at the airport and take the A34 ring road (about 20 minutes).
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE): Located about 130 km away, it's ideal for international flights; from here, you can continue by rental car (via the A4/A34, about 1.5 hours) or by train from the nearby Mestre station.

🚗 By car

From Venice/Trieste (A4 Motorway)
Take the A4 motorway and take the A34 motorway junction towards Gorizia. Take the ''Gorizia'' exit and continue following the signs for the city center and then for Piuma/San Floriano del Collio.
From Udine (SS56)
Follow the Strada Statale 56 towards Gorizia, take the ring road and follow the signs for Piuma.

Parking: You can park your car in the designated areas near the entrance to the Garden.

🚆 By Train
The nearest train station is Gorizia Centrale, which is connected to the main lines (Trieste-Udine-Venice line) by regional and high-speed trains.
From the station, you can reach the Garden:

By Taxi: Taxis are available outside the station (the journey takes about 10 minutes).
By Bus: Use the local urban public transport lines (TPL FVG) towards Piuma/San Floriano (we recommend checking the timetable based on seasonal opening times).
