History
In Puglia, overlooking the expanse of the Piana degli Ulivi Monumentali and nestled amongst the whitewashed architecture of the White City, Vista Ostuni embodies a new vision of Italian hospitality. Created through the restoration of the ex Manifattura Tabacchi of Ostuni, this five-star luxury hotel welcomes guests to a place designed to foster a deep connection with the surrounding territory, celebrating its identity, landscape, and culture.
Spanning three hectares and featuring over 170 botanical species, the gardens of Vista Ostuni, designed by landscape architect Erik Dhont, strike a refined balance between architecture, well-being and nature.
From the entrance courtyard, visitors are immersed in an atmosphere suspended in time: centuries-old olive and carob trees, palm trees and citrus fruits welcome guests, alongside a fountain inspired by the tradition of the Italian garden.
At the front of the building, ancient mulberry trees tell a story of deep roots, whilst in the communal areas, aromatic and medicinal herbs - thyme, mint, helichrysum, fennel, oregano, and mugwort - coexist harmoniously with jasmine and citrus fruits. Fruit trees - orange trees, several varieties of fig trees, pomegranates and arbutus - are the stars of the entire landscape.
The Mediterranean scrub, however, remains the dominant feature, with its most characteristic plants: holm oaks, mastic trees, myrtles, tree heather and cork oaks dominate the vegetation, lending the garden a strong structure and an expressive power that reflect the resilience of these ecosystems.
Architectural elements made of local stone - from dry stone walls to large boulders taken directly from the ground - help to create ideal microhabitats for herbaceous species adapted to the driest environments, such as capers, euphorbias and thyme.
A garden is a source of well-being, harmony and joy. The gardens of Vista Ostuni fully embody this vision: a place of healing and balance, where the seamless integration with the surrounding landscape immerses guests in the most authentic heart of Mediterranean Puglia.
