History

Giardini Mileto was created from the desire to renovate an ancient quarry and the surrounding land present in a strip of land of approximately fourteen hectares of the Zizzi family, and also the owner of a plant nursery, involved in the sale of ornamental plants and the design and creation of gardens, with a distant of just 3 km away.
The idea is to convert the agricultural area into a naturalistic park, characterized by a high biodiversity of plants coming from different areas of the Mediterranean basin. Not only from this region, but also from other parts of the world, particularly the fauna which is compatible with our pedoclimatic area. The goal is to create a garden composed of five different thematic areas; all connected to each other. IL CAMMINO will first extend along tree-lined paths, featuring tree species with different periods of blossoming within the calender year, in order to offer a variation of colour between the different weather seasons. The second area of the garden is represented by IL TEATRO and will be characterized by high rocky walls on which shrubs such as Hawthorn, Myrtle and Pistacia mastic predominate. The entire natural scene will lend itself beautifully as a backdrop to host different events. IL PALMETO, the third zone where art and poetry intersect with each other, stimulating the visitor's imagination. The rustle of sugar cane, the trickling of water and the swaying of the Pampas are a source of calm for the mind. The fourth area, known as IL DESERTO, is made up of succulent plants (commonly referred to as just 'succulents') intended to replicate an environment typical of those areas without water. This aims to demonstrate that, even in arid and rocky areas, it is possible to create an eco-sustainable garden.
A concept that could not be more relevant in today's ever-warming earth climate but also in the Italian region of Puglia, which after all takes its local name 'Apulia' from the meaning to be 'without water'.
To complete your experience at Giardini Mileto, the journey will culimate at IL FRUTTETO. Here you can taste and purchase the extra virgin olive oil we produce ourselves. There will also be the opportunity to try seasonal crops harvested from our organic garden and which will be prepared for various tasting events that will take place over the course of the year.

To know

Giardini Mileto is located on a particularly important town road from a historical point of view known as the ''Via Francigena''. The park lies a few meters from the Dolmen of Montalbano, within the centeral plain of monumental olive trees and is surrounded by a series of underground oil mills. The road is crossed daily by tourists on foot or by bike, by those on religious pilgrimages and by visitors staying in the numerous historic masseria in the Valle d'Itria area. For this reason, the various green areas will be used for educational/cultural activities and events; such as the presentation of books that deal with agronomic themes of the area, as well as theatrical activities that will reproduce the ancient crafts that took place in our lands.
