This well structured garden stretches over three hectares in the unique scenery of the Valdichiana between Montepulciano and Pienza, caressed by the Mediterranean sun amongst olives, cypresses, holm oaks and vineyards. The natural and cultivated environments as well as the park have been enhanced by the landscaping of Adelmo Barlesi, the owner, together with the art historian Cinzia Sorlini. Seen from above, the Villa Trecci Park appears as a meticulous drawing highlighting the harmony, beauty and artfulness of the land. As a spacious modern garden it also aims to transmit a message of sustainibility with the choice of many plants from the Mediterranean flora and techniques to conserve and recycle water by using large underground cisterns to collect rainwater.

Construction began in 2015 and the park was opened to the public in 2018, divided into thematic areas. The rose garden has modern varieties, many of them Italian hybrids, while the woodland combines Mediterranean flowers with trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants from all over the world, varying from crab apples to liquidambar, Canadian ferns to Chinese calycanthus. The little lake is very evocative with a collection of water lilies and many marsh plants along the banks. The library garden is distinguished by topiaried bushes and brightly coloured flowers around the building which houses the owner's studio as well as a landscape and gardening library. A splendid classic Tuscan lemon conservatory is mirrored in a formal pool of water, while irises and small flowers exalt the local wild olive cultivar, the “olivastro seggianese” in the olive grove. A long bed of grasses unites the various thematic areas of the park, with herbaceous plants and bulbs offering shimmering colours from spring till autumn amongst the light rippling of the foliage.

Hospitality

To step into this Palazzo San Donato is pure magic and once you close the door, you go back in time and you are surrounded by the charm of the early 19thcentury, with the original furniture and fine luxury, that today have gone lost.

The love for this historical period, so luxurious and rich in beauty, led us to renovate the Palazzo in Montepulciano according to the original architectural structures and using only furniture that remind us of that time in a unique atmosphere.
