Driving along the A1 highway, exit at ''Firenze sud'' and follow the signposts for Bagno a Ripoli - Pontassieve. On the highway heading towards Pontassieve, at the Candeli traffic-light turn left into Via della Massa. The hotel provides a spacious car-park, attended and free of charge.
History
The origins of Villa La Massa date back to 1525 when Santi Landini, famous editor belonging to the Florentine Aristocracy, decided to build his Summer residence on the banks of the Arno river.
The Villa remained in the Landini family until 1788, when it was sold to the Cardinal Giovanni Rinuccini.

The Rinuccini lived in the Villa until 1826, when they sold it to Lady Catherine Hombert Ruffié Planche. In 1856 Countess Bierlinska, bought the property. With the Demidoffs and the Boutourlines, she was part of the Russian Aristocracy who settled in Florence at the end of the 18th century. Villa La Massa was then property of John Goldsmith and finally of the family Sears who in 1953 transformed the Villa into an “hotel de charme”.
Villa d'Este bought Villa La Massa in 1998, returning to the old aristocratic appeal.

Villa La Massa is surrounded by 9 acres of parkland. Each path leads to the Arno river and great views of the Chianti hills.
The collection of Iris in the garden designed by the landscape architect Maria Chiara Pozzana, wants to be a ''garden'' which opens as a lookout on the river. High re-blooming iris, iris medium and dwarf iris colors yellow, white and blue, interior walkways animated by Agapanthus blue and cream-colored peonies. Together with the herb garden and the vegetable chef, the Iris Garden is a place of inspiration. A location not too far from traditional jardin potager verger, who according to the philosophy of the farm ornamental blends aspects of production and ornamental trees in the garden of delights.

The 16th Century estate sits on the banks of the Arno River, on 22 acres full of lemon trees and olive groves that surround the property. Under the direction of Executive Chef Andrea Quagliarella, menu include both Tuscan regional specialities and Mediterranean specialities, thus offering a broad daily choice. The sommeliers have chosen 400 labels among those best representing the Italian wine culture, with a special focus on Tuscan wines. Utmost care is given to procuring foodstuff of prime quality, with a preference for local and organic products.
